about

What is "Blues, Preludes & Feuds" (BPF) . . . and why would you want to read-listen to it?

That's right, I said "read" AND listen.

BPF melds original solo piano music—composed and improvised—with my memoir, written in the creative nonfiction genre. The music wends around the written narrative, telling the story in its own way. The combination of music and story is, I think, engaging and entertaining, offering a rather unique reader-listener experience.

BPF tells the story of my growing up in Chicago and finding my music as I negotiate the world. The story is funny and reflective, delving into themes of race, politics, family—and of course, music.

So, where are the words, you ask? For the full audio-literary experience you’ll need to download the app, available now on the App Store (Android and web versions coming.)

I’m releasing BPF in segments. The Prelude and Parts 1-4 are available now. For a limited time, you can read/listen to the Prelude and Parts 1-2 for free. Excerpts of Parts 3-4 are also free, but access to the rest of the content is available via in-App purchases.
