about

These are my earliest professional recordings, at least that I can find. They were recorded in the summer of 1980 at P.S. Recording Studios on the south side of Chicago, with my jazz mentor David Bloom engineering/producing. At 19 years of age, it was a pretty big deal for me, particularly because I was playing with to stalwarts of the Chicago jazz scene, Larry Grey on bass, and Robert Shy on drums.

The tracks included are only the originals from that session: I also recorded two tracks by Randy Weston, but since Bandcamp only allows originals, those aren't included.

You will notice that with the exception of track 2 (After Mal), everything here is a jazz waltz, and a fast jazz waltz at that. Clearly I was into fast jazz waltzes when I was 19.
