about

I recorded these tracks in 1995 at WFMT studios in Chicago. The three preludes, modeled somewhat after Chopin's 24, come from a set of 12 I wrote between 1992 and 1995. The three etudes here come from a set of six, again modeled loosely after Chopin's. Very loosely. I composed the Jazz Waltz and Scherzo in 1992.

So what of the missing nine preludes and three Etudes? I'm recording the entire set this year (2020) along with an unrecorded sonata from the same (middle) period of my compositional life. It happened to be a particularly fecund period, and not just for piano music. Orchestral, chamber, dance...but not no pop.

In any case, think of this as a teaser for the album to come later this year.
