History was calling And sounding rather grave He said that we were falling I said “Can You Explain” He said he’s seen it all before That we look much the same “You’re only fighting bigger wars. Why don’t just play games?” History was screaming We didn’t hear a word Much to busy scheming He sounded so absurd “You just might look back now and then. It wouldn’t hurt”, he said. “If you only look ahead, You all may soon be dead” “You just might look back now and then. It wouldn’t hurt”, he said. “If you only look ahead, You all may soon be dead” History is calling You better, you better, You better pick up the phone His story is appalling You better, you better, You better pick up the phone

Mr. Morality 04:25
Mr. Morality Knows his bible better than me Says he read the constitution And he knows its original intention Mr. Morality Has figured out our destiny He says that we were meant to be A great white nation of purity Mr. Morality Doesn’t Like The World he sees So he got the Lord’s permission To lead us back to some ancient tradition Mr. Morality Has got the answer for you and me But you’ll have to pay him a bigger fee If you want your soul set free Mr. Morality Mr. Morality Mr. Morality Mr. Morality Mr. Morality Is trying to save you from people like me He says the fruits of my inspiration We lead you unto your perdition

I’m here all alone I don’t know what to do Found out that your were gone Now I Got The Blues Chorus: But I still want you And I still need you I hope you want me to But I don’t think you understand What I’m going through You through me a curve I hit it straight back to you I don’t know what that means Maybe I’m just a fool (Chorus) I need some help from above So what else is knew Caught inside this dream of your love Caught in a web spun by you (Chorus) I’m here all alone I don’t know what to do Found out that your were gone Now I Got The Blues
4.
I see you there What do you want me to do? Act unaware, Or get right here next to you? I'll take you away If that's what you want me to do. Just point out the way, I'll act on your every cue. Chorus: I'll be around I'll be there for you I'll be around No matter what you do. Look at me girl I must look like a fool Lost in your whirl Like I'm back in high school You take me away With every little thing you do No I wouldn't stray Even if you told me to. Chorus:
5.
Some of this world Is a playful celebration And some of this life I spend in meditation But most of this world Is a maze of our frustration And most of this life Is a life of desperation Chorus: And then I slowly realize You are hear for me You are hear for me And then I slowly realize You are next to me You are next to me Some of my days I can leave the past behind me And some of my nights I feel such peace inside me But most of my days I search for answers blindly And most of my nights…

It’s all you ever could ask for A high-powered job and a fancy car Looks like your birthright has taken you far You’ve got the gift of persuasion You use big words and your ten feet tall So smart, you’re sure that you never could fall But then it’s all taken ‘way from you And you feel so lost The image you had wasn’t really true And you can’t accept it Chorus: Free yourself from yourself Free yourself Free yourself from yourself Free yourself Now you are batting ‘o for twenty Your touch of gold has turned to mud You hit the bottom floor with a thud Poor guy, you’re feeling so sorry You think the world is so unfair So bad, they must of made an error somewhere But say it’s all given back to you Would you feel good then Why depend on what’s outside of you When it’s all a dream world Chorus Instrumental Chorus

Little World 03:57
Little world How I love the way you turn It turns me on And litle girl I revolve around the world That you live on Your little moon I can’t help myself Your pull is much too strong Give me a whirl And I’ll let the sun shine on you All day long You turn and spin In all of your circles You don’t have a care While I’m swirling All around you And your not even aware Thoough I’m trying I just cannot find the strength To dissapear Please let me in I’m about to burn up In your atmosphere BRIDGE: Little world I’m so lonely Little girl Your my only Little me I’m so lonely But if only You would be my Little girl Little world You turn and spin In all of your circles You don’t have a care While I’m swirling All around you And your not even aware Thoough I’m trying I just cannot find the strength To dissapear Please let me in I’m about to burn up In your atmosphere BRIDGE:

I Don't Lie 04:26
I will only say What I need to say Buts it’s not That I don’t really care And I’ll only do What I what I want to do It’s just me I’m not being unfair CHORUS: I don’t lie Though I say some things That sound a little strange to you I don’t lie Though from day to day My words can always change People talk away My mind tends to stray How can I Help it if I offend Or I walk away When I’m supposed to stay Maybe I just don’t know How to blend CHORUS:
9.
Meant To Be 03:22
Every time I’m near you Something feels so right Like I’ve known you For a million years But even as we feel this love With all are might You let those feelings Lose out to your fears And so you talk about it Try to find a way around it Even thought it’s clear for all to see Chorus: That we were meant to be I wanna sing about it And there’s no doubt about it When your near Everytime you call my name I hear a song About a love That never disappears But you always Find some reason To prolong Are you gonna wait A million years? And so you think about it Try to find a name to call it Even thought it’s clear for all to see Chorus:
10.
I just don’t know what I’m going to do To get me any closer to you I’ve run short of the right things to say So why don’t you take me any old way Open your heart and don’t hold back How can you doubt such a feeling I might have something that you lack And it’s real if you feel CHORUS: Oh, it will be heaven You’ve got to believe me Girl, you’ve got me reeling And I can’t hold back any more You’ve got me dangling here by a string Like I’m some little baby’s play thing I’ll play this game for only so long Then you’ll be hearing another man’s song Open your heart and don’t hold back How can you doubt such a feeling I might have something that you lack And it’s real if you feel CHORUS: Can’t hold back any more, etc. Love, love, love, here it comes

People without souls Are no fun at all People without souls They make your skin crawl People without souls Have no sense of humor They’re hearts eaten ‘way By a life hating tumor And people without souls Are often in power People without souls They always turn sour People without souls You know what is said They don’t have to die They’re already dead

about

All of the tracks on this album were recorded between 1988 and 1991. That's getting to be about a quarter century ago, to which I have to say one thing: SH*T!

They come from three sources: 1. An LP I released in 1988 called "Songs from Two States" (Studiomeida, Chicago); 2. An unreleased set of studio recordings from 1989 (River North Studios, Chicago); 3. Demos created in my twelve-track home studio in North Hollywood, CA.

The best work here are the five unreleased studio recordings, which is why I put them first. In these I more fully embraced my roots in jazz, blues, R&B and even classical (note the French Horns at the end of Mr. Morality.) There is the harmonic sophistication which comes naturally to me, and is a hall mark of my compositional style; there is the rich production; there's the more sophisticated lyrics; and, finally, there is the confidence in the performance which comes both from experience and being more comfortable in one's own skin (often one and the same.)

Having said that, there are some very nice things, particularly the first 3 tracks, from the early sessions. My favorite moment is the opening of "Little World".

The demo recordings are actually quite finished, at least to the extent that I'm done with them. Unlike the other tracks on this album (which obviously use real lie musicians) these are all MIDIfied tracks. This was 1991, and I didn't have the worlds greatest samples, but I think they're pretty musical nonetheless. "People without Souls" is probably the most absurd (and shortest) track from my "early" period.
