Sipping coffee that wasn’t too strong

The café had bookshelves
Filled with old Gore Vidal
We agreed we disliked him
Historical novels and all

I’d rather be fighting that bored

We criticized movies
We hadn’t yet seen
And bitched about movies stars’
Riches as we ate ice cream

We sighed about money
And not having enough
We then proudly split the lunch bill
In our enlightened love

And difficult
With someone not so ironically detached
From the world
I wanna be uneasy,
Immature, sleazy
And not some bionically matched
