about

Mr. Morality is Ed Meese, Attorney General during the Reagan presidency. It was about the him and the so-called Moral Majority (now the Tea Party, I guess.) Enough said.

I love Heath Chappell’s drum part on this. The tune, written in 1988 should have been a classic, but then again, it was written during that Reagan era where everything was becoming increasingly conservative, dull, corporate, etc. Pop music itself was becoming this way. With the exception of the occasional accidental outbreak of originality (like Grunge, and some Hip-hop) It never really stopped becoming this way.

lyrics

Mr. Morality
Knows his bible better than me
Says he read the constitution
And he knows its original intention

Mr. Morality
Has figured out our destiny
He says that we were meant to be
A great white nation of purity

Mr. Morality
Doesn’t Like The World he sees
So he got the Lord’s permission
To lead us back to some ancient tradition

Mr. Morality
Has got the answer for you and me
But you’ll have to pay him a bigger fee
If you want your soul set free

Mr. Morality
Mr. Morality
Mr. Morality
Mr. Morality

Mr. Morality
Is trying to save you from people like me
He says the fruits of my inspiration
We lead you unto your perdition
