I wrote this, originally, for a film scoring class at UCLA extension in 1992. The assignment was to compose something for a sad scene between Napoleon and Josephine. I don't remember film, but I do remember that my instructor had tears in his eyes after hearing this. Of course, I've gone and ruined it with this Wagnerian orchestration of the original. Maybe I'll post the live recording of the string quartet from that film class if I can find it. Still...this retains the tragic feel.
